“I’m looking into homeschooling for my daughter, I’m scared to send her to school. The thought of something horrible happening to her, like what happened to the children that were murdered in Texas breaks my heart”. Said Ricardo Jimenez, a father of a 5 year old student who attends Westmont elementary.

A school a place of education, where learning and developing relationships among peers is an opportunity given to every child in America, has now become of concern that has parents demanding a change to ensure the security of their children.

The Uvalde tragedy left a total of 21 people dead, among those were 19 children and two teachers. The gunman was an 18 year old who was able to access the campus armed with two riffles.

School shootings have become increasingly frequent and deadly during the past five decades. The Uvalde shooting is the deadliest at a U.S. school since the one in 2012 at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown, Conn., where 20 children and six staff members died. In 2018, an attack at a high school in Parkland, Fla., left 17 students and staff dead.

The massacre at Robb Elementary has left the nation demanding answers, and change. It also raised the importance of taking action by voting for those who’s values align with the safety and protection of the children and community.

Deputy District Attorney Alma Hernández who’s passion is to enforce children safety had this to say, “As a mother the protection of our children is issue #1, it is for me and for all parents. I believe in the safety and protection of our children, and ensuring that those that carry out the enforcement of our laws, police, prosecutors and judges, adhere to their responsibility of ensuring public safety.

I have dedicated my life’s work to protecting children, both as a Sexual Assault & Child Abuse Prosecutor and as a Gang Prosecutor. As a community we need to ensure that we use our voices in the ballot box and hold our elected officials accountable for failing to ensure that this type of violence stops”.

Alma Hernández is currently running for Orange County superior court judge, seat #30
